• Headsets are available for all passengers inside the helicopter so that they can talk to each other and share the experience while flying.
• Feel free to engage your friendly pilot for his informed narrative and commentary
• Customers should allow 1 hour in total for the whole experience including check-in, safety briefing, photo opportunity around the  helicopters, boarding, flight time and then disembarking after flight.
• Free tea and coffee facilities, as well as a comfortable viewing lounge overlooking the helipad, is available for all passengers as well as for family and friends spectating on the ground.
• Safety is paramount. All safety processes and procedures as required by Touchdown Helicopters and the governments Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) are strictly adhered to in all aspects of conducting this scenic flight.

Detailed Tour Description

The southern most point on our itinerary is the historic coastal village of Kiama. Still an active working fishing harbour but most famous for its blowhole, an ocean powered geyser capable of blowing a column of water over 70ft in the air. From Kiama you will track northwards following the Wollongong coastline past the iconic surfing location of The Farm Beach at Killelea State Reserve and on to Bass Point marine reserve; a drawcard for scuba divers and free divers from across the country, all keen to swim amongst the colourful fish, huge rays and grey nurse sharks that feed and breed in the area.

Looking
west to the mountains Lake Illawarra presents itself in all its glory– a large coastal saltwater lagoon with the Great Dividing Range forming the backdrop. The lake is spiritually significant, used as a primary source of food by the local aboriginal Tharawal and Wodi Wodi tribes. In the modern day, the lake entrance is a popular fishing and prawning location for the locals. From the air you will be able to see the fishermen lining the lake entrance all hoping to take home the catch of the day for dinner.

As we continue to track northwards a great location to spot the humpback whales and bottlenose dolphins, which are regular visitors to our shores, is Perkins Beach – Wollongong’s longest beach at 6.5km in length – the most northern end of which terminates dramatically at the base of the 71m high rocky outcrop of Red Point. Known locally as Hill 60 it contains a maze of tunnels built during the second war as part of a gun battery used to defend the Wollongong shoreline.

Continuing your flight past Port Kembla Harbour, Wollongong Golf Course and WIN Stadium – home to the mighty St George Illawarra Dragons football team –  we eventually reach the local tourist mecca of Wollongong Harbour, popular for its cafés, restaurants and beaches, before heading back to base, flying over Lake Illawarra as you make your final approach to land.

And when you land… No need to rush off….Sit down and have a relaxing cuppa while you check out the photo’s from your flight and tell your friends and family all about them.
